A classic Indian Head cent struck on the height of the Civil War. Obverse depicts Liberty with rounded bust in a Local American headdress. Reverse of coin options oak wreath and defend. Struck in copper-nickel, early Indian Head cents were ceaselessly referred to as nickels or nicks till 1866 and were later referred to as white cents.
